Paper
Prints printed on paper use 200 pound wt.
and are made by Arches in France. It is made from cotton rag and is
museum quality.
It will not yellow with
time. It has a special coating for the Giclee process.
Canvas
Prints printed on canvas use a
very fine woven cotton duct.
Stretcher
To insure that the canvas
print does not warp or curl it, is stretched on an undecorated wooden
frame called a stretcher.
Frame
The decorated and/or colored
border usually made of wood or metal into which the painting is mounted.
Matte
A heavy paper border that
is used with watercolors, drawings and pastels. The work is mounted inside
the matte and the matte is mounted
into a glassed frame.
Giclee Print Making
Giclee printmaking is a digital process
that requires the unique collaboration of art and technology. I am
very fortunate to be working
with Pictex, a Boston company who has the ability and equipment to produce
these very fine museum quality prints. I applaud them for their high
standards. Their work is amazing in that it is often difficult to see
the difference between the original and the print. Sometimes I prefer
the print. Every print is carefully made by Pictex and inspected by me.
I personally sign, number and date every print.
Limited Edition
A limited
quantity of prints are produced at one printing. Before they are sold
they are signed numbered and dated.
Once this edition is sold out another edition can be printed. However,
there is only one first edition.
Open Edition
Prints are produced individually or in
very small quantities. They are signed, numbered and dated as produced.
